New comedy films include science fiction, action, dark humor, and dramedy released on DVD and Blu-ray this month.

August’s best releases of comedy films are marked by variety, ranging in format, style, and content. From an out-of-this-world sci-fi film (Paul) to more traditional worldly matters (Madea’s Big Happy Family), you’ll find plenty to keep you amused.

Paul (Widescreen and Blu-ray)

Two nerdy science-fiction enthusiasts take a road trip to visit pop culture sites involving UFO legends. Along the way, they run into a real alien – a four-feet tall, CGI-created visitor from another planet (voiced by Seth Rogen). Federal agents take an interest in the two geeks when they decide to help their new friend return to his mother ship. There’s lots of humor (and guest stars) in this partially animated film that is definitely not family fare.

Part action film, part comedy, and part morality tale, this quirky little film made the festival circuit earlier this year.

It’s only a matter of time, however, until his deception is discovered, and he’s called upon to make amends with his client, his family, and his own conscience.
