Michael Moore’s new project, first announced at Cannes in 2008, Capitalism: A Love Story will enjoy its theatrical debut on October 2, 2009. It will examine the wonders of capitalism with the filmmaker’s usual biting humor and keen eye for details. Paramount Vantage will handle international distribution of the film, and Overture Films is in charge of American distribution.
Capitalism: A Love Story Release Date Set for October
In his first film since 2007’s Sicko, an examination of the American healthcare system, Moore plans to release the new documentary this year, on the 20-year anniversary of Roger & Me. The new film returns to the same issue as the earlier film: the devastating impact that corporate dominance and uncontrolled greed have on the lives of everyday citizens in America and throughout the world. This time, however, Moore’s focus extends far beyond General Motors. The specific release date, October 2, marks a year and a day after the United States Senate voted for the $700 billion Wall Street bailout.
About Michael Moore’s New Documentary
Moore’s film will look at the sources of the global economic meltdown, including the politics involved in the process. He has described the bailout, which required a huge transfer of U.S. taxpayer money to private financial institutions, as “the biggest robbery in the history of the country.”
Moore explained in a prepared statement: “The wealthy, at some point, decided they didn’t have enough wealth. They wanted more – a lot more. So they systematically set about to fleece the American people out of their hard-earned money. Now, why would they do this? That is what I seek to discover in this movie.”
